Dr Monik Vasant will be flying over to Tanzania on the 12th September to provide the local area with a portable dental facility.
Dr Monik Vasant will be helping to provide oral health information and to stop Infant Oral Mutilation (IOM).
Infant oral mutilation is the process of gouging out an infant’s healthy baby teeth. A primitive technique is usually employed involving un – sterile knives, bicycle spokes or other bizarre and inappropriate instruments. The result is severe pain and confusion, serious future mouth problems and in the worst case scenario end in the death of the child.
Why is it done? When young children with diarrhoea and fevers are taken to be treated by a local healer the soft white tooth buds are mistaken for the fever causing parasite worms, commonly found in diarrhoea. It is believed that the child is unwell because of these ‘mouth worms’ whereas in reality the cause of the illness is something quite different, often malaria, dehydration, or a stomach bug caused by contaminated water.
Dr Monik Vasant will be in Mwanza and Musoma which are towns in Tanzania in East Africa for 2 weeks where he will be teaching the local communities the real truth about Infants Oral Health and general dentistry in hard to reach communities in a portable dental clinic.
He will also be taking with him dental equipment which he will be installing in Tanzania for the far outreach communities to use with the knowledge they will be given.
We wish him good luck and hope he can make a difference to the lives of children over there.

We have a new dentist on board and we would like everyone to give her a warm welcome to one of the most advanced dental practices in the North West.
Here is a brief introduction of our new dentist,
Dr Nimrata Shama who qualified from Leeds 2009. She completed her vocational training last year at the Bury Access centre. She is going to take her MJDF exam in March 2011 and has an interest and would like to specialise in Endo treatments.
Dentist’s do also enjoy other things apart from examining teeth and Dr Shama enjoys swimming, watching tennis and socialising with friends and family.
We are all pleased to have her on our team.

Due to the severe weather conditions a week ago our annual charity car wash was cancelled.
But with the sun back on our side again we will be holding a charity screen wash on Monday 6th September at Fresh Dental at 6pm.

Here at Fresh Dental we have many celebrities come in for treatment and from all over UK but it is never as fun as when Amir Khan holder of the WBA World light welterweight title pops round for a check up.
As you can see from the picture Dr Vasant and Amir Khan get up to all kind of mischief when he pops in for a check up.

We would like to thank Mrs Walmsley for enduring and being brave to complete a large treatment. Mrs Walmsley chose to have a full mouth implant rehabilitation which requires hours of work to be done and the patient to be relaxed during them which is quite difficult for the patient and the dentist.
Dr Vasant presented Mrs Walmsley with some flowers and a champagne bottle for her courage and to celebrate her new implanted teeth. Dental Implants are the future for missing teeth or loose dentures where implants are placed into the bone.
As you can see Mr and Mrs Walmsley were both extremely pleased with the outcome and will enjoy having the perfect smile for years to come.

In the 9th August issue of Woman’s Own Magazine they covered the topic which most of us want these days in time for summer which is how to get that Hollywood smile.
They mentioned in this topic the different types of whitening toothpastes and how there effects have been with use and recieved ratings from 1 to 10. They also included non biased teeth whitening “Need to know…” section where it gives you in detail what you need to know about the whitening treatments on before and after care and what to expect with the whitening systems.
They also had a very large section which gives you descriptions of the teeth whitening systems with their average costs and how they work and what types of results you would expect.
Included in that section was an article on one of our patients teeth whitening results, Sandra Aspinall to be exact who suffers with a condition from birth which meant she had thin enamel on her teeth and made her teeth look yellow. With age her teeth became much worse and she had lost her confidence in her smile.
This year she was determined to change the appearance of her smile and a dentist advised her that she would need veneers on her front teeth which is a costly and major treatment. Sandra wasnt sure if she wanted to go ahead with such a big treatment plan and arranged an appointment with Dr Monik Vasant who advised her that such a huge and expensive treatment was not needed and recommended the Enlighten Whitening system. She appreciated his honesty as the veneers were much expensive and wouldn’t give the desired results. Sandra chose our Enlighten Whitening Sytem which requires special bleaching trays to be created which she will fill with the Enlighten bleaching gel and use them overnight for 2 weeks and then come into surgery for a final booster session. A few minor touches on her teeth and that was that.
The results were amazing! The pictures say it all.
Sandra loves her new smile and it has changed her life giving her a confidence boost when ever she smiles.

We have chosen our charity event for this year and the date and venue.
We will be having a charity car wash where all our staff will be giving up their own time to participate to raise money.
The venue will be at the Fresh Dental Practice and the date and time are 22/08/10 Sunday at 11am so come on down and get your car washed.
All donations will be shared out to chosen charities and we really wish this will be a great success and especially hoping for a nice hot day.

Here at Fresh Dental we are a family. We all support each other if there are any delays or complications which can arise when you least expect it but these types of incidents make our bond stronger.
We would like to welcome and introduce to you all our newest memeber of the Fresh Dental family who is Victoria Bowden.
She is our new head nurse with over 14 years experience in dental nursing and has left her previous job which was a dental nurse tutor and assessor to come and join our team.
She will be bringing great leadership skills and her vast knowledge in dental nursing which will benefit our nurses aswell.
