The important role of the receptionist

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

People and dentists often look past on the important role a receptionist plays in a dental practice.

The receptionist is the first person our patients meet first when they enter our practice.

The receptionist need to have a friendly and positive attitude which reflects on the mood of the practice from a patients point of view when entering and communicating with our staff.

That is the why we train our staff and receptionists on how to meet customer service goals daily and how we can improve the patients visit to our practice each step of the way from answering the phone to arrange appointments to saying goodbye to a patient when they are leaving the practice with a smile.

We hope you enjoy your next visit to us and can notice if you are treated with smiling staff all the way and please dont be shy to leave any comments or tips for us to improve our service further.

Overcome your fear

We understand and sympathise what our nervous patients must feel when they are attending for their appointments.

Most people fear the dentists due to previous experiences at the dentists from childhood or they get worked up by the scary tales to by family members and friends when they visited the dentist.

People tend to remember negative experiences more then positive experiences and this plays a major part in the stories and tales that travel around as they are most likely to be 90% negatives stories.

So we have thought of methods from our own research and experiences with nervous patients to help you to relax at your next appointment.

1. Bring a mp3 player with you. Some patients are terrified of the noise of the drill which makes them anxious so listening to an mp3 player will block out the drilling noise leaving your mind in the musical world of ABBA!!

2. Talk to your dentist. By talking to your dentist before treatment will allow you to feel comfortable with the dentist. You can tell your dentist face to face exactly what you fear and they will reinsure you and meet your needs. All staff at Fresh Dental are chilled out so they wont mind having a chat with you about almost anything! Dentists are like me and you.

3. Technology. The technology and methods have advanced so fast over the recent years which has made treatments much safer and easier for dentists and patients. Maybe your childhood dentist was cruel and old fashioned but those are the old days which have gone. Research into dentistry is happening as we speak. Fresh Dental staff are always at all the dental conferences and exibitions (Manchester Confernece last week) to learn the latest techniques which is why we are one of the most advanced practices in the North West!

4. Breathing. Try doing breathing exercises before coming into the practice to bring your heart rate down and to relax you. Taking in breaths through your nose slowly and exhaling out of your mouth slowly will help you relax.

5. Therapy. Visit a hypnotherapy specialist who can help to remove your fear of the dentist out of your mind and this is a proven method which we have seen with few of our patients.

6. Remember you can always tell the dentist to stop whenever you like before or during a treatment. So you are in total control!

Hope you enjoy trying these methods and seeing for yourself their success or when your in next time just have a chat with any memeber of our staff who are more then happy to discuss relaxtation techniques.

Risks of Oral Cancer

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

There is no single cause of oral cancer but some factors increase the risk of developing it.

Here are some major factors that can increase the risk;

smoking or chewing tobacco or using snuff, especially if you also drink alcohol heavily

drinking a lot of alcohol, especially if you also smoke or chew tobacco or use snuff

chewing betel nut

sun exposure to the lips

Infection of the oral cavity with the human papillomavirus (HPV) may also be a risk factor for oral cancer.

Some people develop oral cancer without any of these risk factors

We take oral cancer diagnosis very seriously and Fresh Dental dentists and nurses will always try and give you advice on where you can get help from to aid your journey to quit smoking or chewing tobacco as we have seen how oral cancer can affect you and your families lives in a negative way.

A Caring Dentist

Friday, May 20th, 2011

Dr Yusaf Ali who joined our team in January has been getting many praises over the few months from the patients he has seen.
Here are a few of the comments left by patients after visiting Dr Yusaf Ali;

“Brilliant bedside manner, helpful, informative, very skilled, makes dentistry a pleasure!”
DJG

“always very nice and polite and Annette the manager is always very nice and polite and so are the receptionists who are always nice and polite”
RB

Dr Yusaf Ali takes oral health very seriously and his teachings are paying off with patients feeling more confidence with their oral hygiene, informed about the affects of stress on the jaw and teeth and the overall health of their mouth.

He has swore not to stop until every patient he see’s is aware of the correct method of brushing and the importance of flouride and we are glad to have such a dedicated member in the field of dentistry with us.

Bolton will never be the same again.
