Spit or Rinse?

July 11, 2012

Did you know it is more beneficial to you to spit out the excess toothpaste after brushing your teeth rather then rinsing your mouth out with water. When rinsing with water, you are also rinsing away the toothpaste off the tooth surfaces.By spitting excess toothpaste, it allows some traces of toothpaste to coat tooth surfaces which results in  strengthening the enamel of the teeth. So the longer the toothpaste remains on the tooth surfaces, the longer your teeth will remain protected .This is highly advisable for patients suffering with sensitive teeth and who use sensitive relief toothpaste as you are washing away the effects of the sensitive relief toothpaste as soon as you have brushed your teeth with water. Many people also have the habit of leaving the tap on whilst brushing their teeth. The spitting out method also saves water (up to 12 litres average) daily by turning the tap off.We would love for everyone to try this method and update us with their results especially patients who suffer with sensitive teeth.
