What Are Removable Braces for Children?

Removable braces are custom-made appliances that children can take in and out. They help guide jaw growth, create space for emerging teeth, and correct early alignment issues before they worsen.

These appliances are ideal for:
  • Early bite correction

  • Guiding jaw growth

  • Mild crowding

  • Slight tooth movement

  • Correcting habits such as thumb-sucking or tongue thrusting

  • Improving facial balance during developmental years

Because they are removable, they are often easier for children to adapt to and maintain compared to fixed braces.

What to Expect During Treatment

At Freshdental, we aim to make treatment simple, supportive, and positive for both children and parents.

Steps include:
  • Gentle Orthodontic Assessment
We assess your child’s bite, jaw growth, and tooth alignment using digital scans, X-rays, and a friendly examination.

  • Custom Appliance Design
Precise measurements are taken to create a comfortable, effective removable appliance.

  • Fitting Appointment
We ensure the appliance fits well and explain how to wear, remove, and clean it, along with a clear wear schedule.

  • Regular Follow-Up Visits
Periodic check-ups allow us to monitor progress and make any needed adjustments.

  • Transition to Next Phase (If Needed)
Early treatment often prepares children for future orthodontics, and some may not need further treatment at all.

Is Your Child a Suitable Candidate for Removable Braces?

Removable braces are commonly recommended for children aged 6–12 with early alignment or developmental concerns. They may be suitable if your child:

  • Still have baby teeth and early permanent teeth

  • Show signs of a developing bite issue

  • Have mild crowding or spacing concerns

  • Need early jaw guidance

  • Would benefit from habit correction

  • Can follow instructions and handle removable appliances responsibly

During your consultation, we will assess your child’s needs and recommend the best treatment plan.

Frequently asked questions about early orthodontics at Freshdental

At what age should my child first see an orthodontist?

We recommend an initial orthodontic assessment around the age of 7. At this stage, we can identify early signs of misalignment, jaw irregularities or habits that may affect long-term development, even if full treatment isn’t needed yet.

How do I know if my child needs early orthodontics?

Common signs include thumb-sucking habits, crowded teeth, protruding upper teeth, crossbites, open bites, delayed eruption or adult teeth coming through in the wrong position. If you notice any of these, it’s best to book an evaluation at Freshdental.

Is early orthodontic treatment painful or uncomfortable?

Modern techniques are designed to be gentle and child-friendly. Some children may feel slight pressure or discomfort when an appliance is first fitted, but this usually settles within a few days.

Will early orthodontic treatment mean my child won’t need braces later?

Not always. Early treatment can significantly reduce the complexity, duration or intensity of future orthodontics, but some children still require braces during their teenage years. Early intervention makes later treatment smoother, faster and more predictable.
